Why We ❤️ The Valencia Science Museum
Our family LOVES the Museu de les Ciencies in Valencia! It’s the perfect indoor escape from Spain’s heat, and everything here invites touch, play, and wonder. From the dramatic, Calatrava-designed structure to the buzzing energy inside, this museum is one of those places where you can’t help but smile…and maybe learn something too. If you’re here with family, it’s one of the best things to do in Spain!

What to Do at the Valencia Science Museum
Entry Level Fun
You’ll know you’re in the right spot when you see dinosaur skeletons, swirling crystals, and even a mini tornado simulator. It’s an immediate “wow” moment.
Hands-On Kid Zone
Upstairs, there’s a lively area for little builders, complete with blocks, hard hats, water tables, and camera stations to play with perspective. Plus, the incubator room is a real hit: we watched a chick hatch in real time! Our daughter couldn’t get enough.
Scientist for a Day
This is the highlight: kids suit up, do four experiments, and leave with lab coats and big smiles. It’s chaotic in the best way. Slime, color changes, fizzing reactions. Although it’s in Spanish, we muddled through with gestures and a few Spanish phrases (and let our daughter just dive in). Worth every penny.
Main Galleries
Take a moment to admire the massive DNA strand and the mesmerizing Foucault pendulum. The sunlit atrium is the perfect place to sit and let your mind wander.
Space & Planet Zone
Upstairs is all about planets and space. Check your weight in zero-gravity, explore Mars landscapes, and find constellations. It felt a bit like stepping into a sci-fi set!
Hemisfèric 3D Show
We caught “Walking With Dinosaurs” in jaw-dropping 3D. Great for kids 7+, but our dino-obsessed four-year-old handled it fine. Just be ready for a few dramatic scenes. Grab those glasses early and be patient with the long lines.
Seasonal Events & Highlights
Throughout the year, the Museu de les Ciencies in Valencia (or Valencia Science Museum) hosts special themed events. In summer, they’re planning Late-Night Museum Hours on Fridays and Saturdays, including live experiments, food trucks, and interactive shows. There’s also a Science Summer Camp for kids aged 6–12 that runs in July and August (book early…slots fill up fast).
If you’re visiting around Halloween or Día de los Muertos, check out their Family Science Nights, featuring glow-in-the-dark experiments and spooky-themed workshops—now a fan favorite.

Explore the Surrounding City of Arts & Sciences
The Museu de les Ciències in Valencia isn’t the only highlight in this jaw-dropping complex. Just steps away, you’ll find L’Hemisfèric (the IMAX and 3D cinema you’ve already read about) and Oceanogràfic, Europe’s largest aquarium. The aquarium is home to dolphins, sharks, penguins, and Mediterranean ecosystems. Perfect for a full-day family adventure if you pair it with your museum visit.
Then there’s L’Umbracle, a stunning open-air garden featuring native Mediterranean plants and contemporary sculptures. It’s a beautiful spot for a relaxing stroll or memorable family photos against the backdrop of Valencia’s futuristic architecture.
Bike or Walk Along the Turia River Park
Directly behind the Valencia Science Museum complex sits the green heart of Valencia, Turia River Park. In 2026, more families are opting to rent electric bikes or scooters (available nearby) to explore the park’s 9 km stretch filled with playgrounds, fountains, picnic spots, and quirky sculptures. It’s a safe, scenic route that connects to the science museum and spans much of the city. Highly recommended for a post-museum stretch!

Scientist for a Day: The Highlight of Our Visit
The main reason we went to the Valencia Science Museum was for their “Scientist for a Day” program, and it did not disappoint. As soon as we heard about this hands-on activity for kids, we knew our daughter would love it. And she did. From the moment she put on her tiny lab coat, she was fully in her element. Even though the session is in Spanish (and we’re primarily English speakers), we managed just fine by following along with the other kids, using our translator app here and there, and piecing it together with our basic Spanish.
The experiments were easy to follow and so much fun. Things like color-changing reactions, mini explosions, and even making slime! It lasted about an hour, and our daughter still talks about it. If you’re traveling with kids and want something educational, interactive, and memorable…this is it. Just make sure to book in advance, as spots do fill up!

Don’t Miss L’Hemisfèric: More Than Just a 3D Cinema
Right next to the Museu de les Ciencies in Valencia sits L’Hemisfèric, Valencia’s IMAX-style 3D cinema housed in a striking, giant eyeball-inspired structure. It screens a rotating selection of nature documentaries, planetarium-style shows, and immersive full-dome experiences perfect for families. Our standout was the “Walking with Dinosaurs” show. 20 incredible minutes of life like dinos stomping, roaring, and interacting with their prehistoric world. Helmed with comfortable reclining seats, high-tech translation headphones (with multiple languages), and futuristic 3D glasses, it’s designed to make every viewer feel like they’re right inside the action. It’s the ideal cooling-off companion to the museum. Just remember to arrive about 15–20 minutes early to beat the queue!

Final Thoughts on the Museu de les Ciencies in Valencia

So, if you’re exploring Valencia with kids, or just love science and jaw-dropping architecture, this is a must-visit. I’ll see you there, probably with a crayon in hand and a big grin!
