During our family road trip across Crete, we stumbled upon the charming town of Kissamos and were lucky enough to stay at the Sunny Bay Hotel. We chose it for the price and location, but we ended up getting so much more: friendly hospitality, beachfront access, and one of the most peaceful sunsets of our trip.

Location, Location, Location!
Sunny Bay Hotel is located in Kissamos, a coastal town on Crete’s northwest side, making it a great base for visiting iconic spots like Falassarna Beach (just 20 minutes away) and Elafonissi Beach. The hotel sits right on the water…like, literally steps from the beach…and is also a short walk from the town center, where you’ll find cozy tavernas, shops, and markets.
Being close to the action but just far enough from the noise made this stay feel peaceful and practical. Whether you’re exploring western Crete or just need a relaxing beach break, the location checks all the boxes.
Room with a View
Our room at Sunny Bay Hotel was clean, modern, and surprisingly spacious. We had a balcony with sweeping views of the Aegean Sea, which made for a breathtaking sunrise and sunset. The bathroom had a shower with a tub, the beds were super comfy, and the room was equipped with air conditioning, a mini fridge, and a tea/coffee station.
Other room options at Sunny Bay include sea view rooms, poolside rooms, and family-style accommodations. No matter your group size or travel style, this hotel has a room that fits everyone’s needs.
Dining & Drinks
Although we didn’t get a chance to eat at the restaurant during our short stay, it looked and smelled amazing. The restaurant and bar are located just off the lobby and next to the pool, offering guests the option to dine indoors or enjoy meals poolside. We’ll definitely be trying the food next time.
There are also dozens of local cafes and restaurants just a few minutes away in Kissamos town, where you can grab everything from fresh seafood to gyros and Greek salads.
