Coorie In operates inside The Black Bull, a traditional Scottish pub located right on Main Street in Cumbernauld. It’s a fantastic option if you want to stay near Glasgow without paying city-center prices.
If you’re road-tripping through Scotland or exploring central Scotland with kids (like we were), this location makes a great base.
First Impressions: Cozy, Local, and Unpretentious
We visited in late October, on Halloween night, and the pub was decked out in decorations. It felt festive without being over-the-top.
It was a quieter evening, which honestly made the experience even better. No rushing. No loud chaos. Just a relaxed atmosphere where you could actually enjoy your meal.
As traveling parents, we notice immediately whether a place tolerates kids, or truly welcomes them.
This place welcomed us with open arms.

What We Ordered (Including Our First Time Trying Haggis)
As a chef, trying traditional Scottish food was high on my priority list.
Haggis has a reputation that scares people off. But when done properly, it’s rich, savory, deeply spiced, and comforting. Not intimidating.
This was our first time trying it.
And surprisingly?
Not only did we enjoy it, but our daughter loved it.
That moment alone made the meal unforgettable. Watching her experience a traditional Scottish dish without hesitation reminded me why we travel the way we do.

We also ordered:
Bruschetta
Fresh, bright, and perfectly seasoned. The tomatoes tasted like they had actually been allowed to ripen. Balanced seasoning, good texture, simple food done well.
Mac n’ Cheese
Creamy, indulgent, and exactly what Scottish pub comfort food should be. Rich without being heavy, cheesy without being greasy.
The beer and drink selection was solid too, with great local options to pair with the meal.
If you’re looking to try haggis in Scotland without feeling intimidated, this is a fantastic place to do it.

The Hospitality: The Real Highlight
Our server, Abbie, was wonderful with us and our daughter. She gave thoughtful recommendations and made us feel comfortable right away.
But the standout moment of the evening?
Peter.
A local gentleman who struck up a conversation with us and ended up making our night. His kindness and generosity reminded us exactly why we love traveling…for the people as much as the places.
Our daughter still talks about him like he’s a family friend.
That’s not something you can manufacture in a review.
That’s real.
