Why You Should Visit Woodstock in Chania, Crete
When visiting the gorgeous city of Chania, Crete, you’ll quickly realize that the restaurant scene is overflowing with options—from bustling waterfront tavernas to tourist-packed cafes. So when our AirBnB host recommended Woodstock, we knew we were in for something special.
Located on the quieter end of the Nea Chora Beach promenade, Woodstock stands out not for its crowds but for its relaxed beachfront atmosphere, creative menu, and unexpectedly outstanding food. When we arrived, only a couple of tables were occupied, which initially gave us pause—but trust us, this is a hidden gem.
The Atmosphere
Woodstock in Chania has a modern beachy vibe with rustic wood tables, friendly servers, and a front-row view of the sea. Sit outside under the umbrellas and you’ll have the perfect vantage point for a Chania sunset. One of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve ever seen.

It feels more like a local hangout than a tourist trap, which adds to its charm. You won’t be overwhelmed by crowds or pushy waiters trying to get you in the door. It’s laid-back, welcoming, and super comfortable—even with a kiddo in tow.
*I’m sure this place gets packed and super crowded. I can understand why! We sat down to eat late afternoon, and it was pretty empty. We walked back by this restaurant while the sun was setting, and every table was full!
What to Order at Woodstock in Chania
✦ Baked Feta
Creamy, warm, and topped with a medley of roasted vegetables. This dish took feta to an entirely new level—easily one of the best things we’ve eaten in Crete.
✦ Cretan Salad
Large, vibrant, and piled high with ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, and mizithra cheese—a local Cretan soft cheese that’s slightly sweet and melts in your mouth.
✦ Red Velvet Pancakes
These are not your typical brunch pancakes. They’re beautiful, fluffy, and rich. We shared them among the table to celebrate my dad’s birthday from afar (hi, Dad!), and they were the perfect sweet ending to a savory meal.
✦ Ouzo
My first time trying Ouzo—a traditional Greek spirit—was here! When poured over ice, it magically turns milky white. It felt like a science experiment in a glass. Refreshing, fun, and oh so strong. Highly recommend.
Service & Kid-Friendliness at Woodstock in Chania
The staff were fantastic—fast, attentive, and genuinely friendly. While there isn’t a dedicated kids menu, the wide variety of dishes makes it easy to find something little ones will enjoy. The pancakes alone are reason enough to bring the whole family.

Location & Accessibility
Woodstock is easy to reach from downtown Chania—just a 10-15 minute walk or a quick ride from the Old Venetian Harbor. It’s located right along Akti Papanikoli, near the western edge of Nea Chora Beach. There’s some street parking nearby, and the area is fairly flat and accessible if you’re pushing a stroller or using mobility assistance.
It’s an ideal stop whether you’re coming from a morning at the beach or winding down after exploring the harbor.
Is Woodstock in Chania Worth It?
Absolutely. Despite being quieter than some of its neighbors, Woodstock serves up some of the best food in Chania with friendly service and unbeatable views. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing seaside brunch or a casual dinner, this is a restaurant that delivers quality without the chaos.
