Tide Pools
One of our family’s favorite things to do at the beach is explore the tide pools in Laguna Beach! A tide pool is a shallow pool of seawater that forms on the rocky intertidal shore. The little pools of water left at low tide are filled with sea life including starfish, sea anemones, sea urchins, crabs, and more! During the summer there is usually a volunteer posted up on the rocks, educating people about the different species that live there and what we can do to protect them. This is the perfect opportunity to turn a day of exploring into a day of learning. Little future marine biologists!
*We also bring a trash bag and make a goal to fill up the bag. Let’s protect our oceans!
Before visiting any tide pool area: Tide pools can be very dangerous and unpredictable and should only be visited during calm waters. Check weather and tide conditions before venturing out, and always leave creatures, shells, and rocks where they are.
And please clean up after yourself.
