The Rock Bar in Bali was recommended to us by a friend, and now I am recommending it to you!
Picture this: You’re chillin on Bali’s cliffs at the Rock Bar, 45 feet up, sipping on something tasty and the sunset is putting on a show just for you. Getting there is half the fun, riding a cliffside lift that feels like your own private entrance to awesome. Once you’re in, the place is buzzing with tunes that match the sea’s own soundtrack, thanks to the DJ booth that’s literally part of the cliff. It’s the kind of spot where you can dress up or down and fit right in. Every evening here is an open invite to kick back with Bali’s best cocktails and just soak it all in.
Located at the Ayana Resort, Bali
It is set on top of jutting rock formations over the Indian Ocean, and sits along the Jimbaran coast in Badung, Bali.
We stayed at the Ayana Resort, so getting to the Rock Bar and getting a table was fairly easy. The resort is off the beaten path, so I would imagine it is hard to get to if you are trying to navigate yourself.
Priority seating is for guests, and all non guests should call and make a reservation before arriving. I was told that they were booked out for months! We were staying at the resort and we still needed to call to make a reservation.

Dress Code
They state that “smart attire” is required. Majority of the people here were dressed pretty formally. Men in button up shirts, slacks, and dress shoes. Women in nice dresses and heels. Some women had on flowy beachy dresses, others wore long formal dresses, and others looked like they were going clubbing. I also saw some people in tank tops and shorts, so I guess the dress code is pretty relaxed?
Once You Get There
After you check in for your reservation, you are shown to the funicular, or cable car, which takes you down a pretty steep cliff to where the bar is located. The ride is a pretty cool experience, but get there much earlier than expected. There was a line when we arrived, and closer to sunset I couldn’t even see the end of the line! There are also stairs, but I did not see any ramps or elevators for those handicapped.
Once you get off, you are shown to your table. We lucked out and got a corner table with an unobstructed view. There are different levels to the Rock Bar so there are plenty of views for everyone, but during the sunset our table did become crowded with people taking pictures, and others trying to squeeze in front of our table to get a picture.
There are tables and lounge chairs all around, and everything modern and clean umbrellas are provided if it is sunny or rainy.
Food and Drink
The drinks were delicious, and the service was great. Our server was very patient with us, offered to take our picture, and was very pleasant. The food was good, but nothing super special. The menu consists of appetizers or small bites that tasted good but were a bit overpriced. The food service was a little slow, but I read that in other reviews, so I think that’s part of the experience? They did have a dinner menu as well, but we were just in the mood for a couple bites.
The drinks were pretty pricey, especially when compared to the prices outside of the resort. It is definitely the views and ambience you’re paying for!
My Opinion
If we ever visit the Ayana Resort again, we will definitely be back to the Rock Bar! It is quite expensive when you compare it to the local prices of food and drink, but you are at a resort and are actually paying for the view. Every table has views of the Indian Ocean and the incredible sunset. The food and drinks were delicious, and the atmosphere was even better. I have traveled all over the world, and this place is in my Top 5 Food with a View category.
