The cobblestone streets are lined with bright, pastel colored buildings, and twinkling star lights hang over the streets. As you enter the smells and friendly faces immediately put you in the holiday spirit. You can hear the sound of children laughing, music being played, and the smell of something delicious. Honestly. It was like walking into a movie. Almost has a Stepford Wives feel, as everything was so perfect.
This magical Swiss town, located along Lake Constance, is like entering a fairy tale. What you’re really entering is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Home to a striking Baroque style cathedral, St. Gall’s Abbey, which houses arguably the most beautiful library in Switzerland. And I freaking missed it.
Due to that oversight, we will be returning. ASAP.

We have tried a few different raclette stalls since we started exploring European Christmas Markets. How can you not?!
St. Gallen had one of our favorite raclette dishes. This time the hot melty cheese was on top of boiled potatoes, and topped with pickles and pearl onions. The vinegar from the pickling cut through the richness of the cheese, and is exactly what it needed. I can’t recommend this enough!
There is a cute kids area at the market. Our daughter loved the Santa train ride. The rides were clean, well kept, and what you would expect to pay. The stars hanging over the streets is what kept our daughter busy the whole time. There are a few stalls selling handmade children’ toys that make for really special gifts.
The town is just so beautiful, parking was easy to find, the food was great, and the people were friendly. What more could you ask for? This is one of those places that you long to go back to. I feel like we’ve left so much uncovered!
