What better time of year to visit Liverpool than during the holidays! The twinkling lights and festive atmosphere make for a memorable visit. If you are visiting for the first time, the Liverpool Christmas Market is the perfect place to taste and smell a little bit of all the local favorites.
First opened in 2006, The Christmas Market has more than 40 traditional timber stalls full of festive crafts and gifts – all locally made – as well as fair rides and a good selection of international food and drink.
Our family enjoyed our time at this Christmas Market, and I hope yours does too! Here is all of the information you’ll need for your trip.
The food options are the best part of this market. You’ll find local specialties such as Yorkshire pudding wraps, bratwurst, salt and pepper chicken, and Greek food. As well as sweets such as fudge, chocolate dipped fruit, waffles, and home bakes – which also offer some vegan options.
The sausage stand smelled the best, but we opted for something a little different – a booth called The Crispy Pig. We ordered the roast ham bap with all the trimmings, which was steaming hot and delicious. There are a few different beer tents, or teepees, where you can keep warm while you eat and drink.
There are plenty of drink stalls selling gluhwein, hot chocolates – with a variety of different shots adults can add to theirs (we opted for amaretto) – beers, wines, and more.
Walking up to the market, you can’t help but be in awe of St. George’s Hall. Such a looming structure encircled with holiday lights.
The Windmill Bar was the first thing we noticed walking up to the market. It really draws you in – like a moth to a flame. It’s a really cool feature, and of course the carousel and ferris wheel are stunning.
If you are driving, there is nearby parking at the Liverpool Moorfields Car Park, which is a 7 minute walk away. You should pre-book your space as the car park will be very busy during the festivities. This is the link to their site where you can reserve your spot and see how many parking spaces are available.
The market is also directly across from Liverpool Lime station and Queens Square bus station. Get off the bus and cross the street! It is by far the easiest way to get there.
Yes! If you are in Liverpool during this time of year, you cannot miss this. Whether you’re visiting as a family, a group of friends, or on a romantic date – this is the place to go. You can read more about our experience by clicking here
