Our In-Depth Review of WestJet Business Class
Information about WestJet:
WestJet first took to the air in 1996. Based in Calgary, Canada, WestJet follows the low cost carrier (LCC) business model, inspired by Southwest Airlines in the US. After expanding its operations, it is now the second largest airline based in Canada, behind Air Canada.
They provide flights across Canada, the U.S., Europe, Asia, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.

Overview:
We flew WestJet Airlines as a family of 3, 2 adults and 1 toddler, from LAX to Calgary, Canada, then continuing on to Paris, France. We booked our tickets about 4 months before our trip, and decided to book the Business Class. Our very first business class trip, and with a toddler! We also flew with 3 other family members, who all flew in different classes.
The price tag for the business class seats were not nearly as steep as I expected. We would have saved a few hundred dollars if we had booked earlier.
LAX to Calgary
Our first flight from LAX to Calgary had no “lay flat” seats on that plane, which was totally fine since it was a short flight! The premium class seats were big and comfy. We were not offered any pre-flight drink or cool washcloth, but it was a shorter flight (about 3 hours).
As we were getting ready to take off, our daughter who was about to turn 4, was trying to get comfortable in her seat, when 2 flight attendants came over and very sternly told her to sit down. She wasn’t standing, merely adjusting her legs. I told the attendant she should have expressed that to me and to not talk to my daughter so rudely. She later came back and apologized and handed me a bag of candy for my daughter. After that incident, it was a good flight.
In Flight Food
The food was alright, but they only had one option left once they got to my seat, and I was one of the first people to order as I was in seat 3A. I received the chicken breast with a veloute herb sauce served with fingerling potatoes, baby carrots, and seasoned broccolini. The dish left much to be desired. The chicken itself was disappointingly dry and the herb sauce failed to elevate the flavor profile, instead imparting a somewhat bland taste. However, the accompanying vegetables provided a pleasant contrast with their tender texture and subtle sweetness, albeit overshadowed by the lackluster chicken. The seasoned broccolini added a hint of freshness to the plate but failed to salvage the overall dining experience. Despite these shortcomings, the asparagus salad served as a refreshing palate cleanser, offering a crisp and vibrant accompaniment to the main course. As for dessert, the chocolate cake stole the show with its decadent richness and velvety smooth texture, providing a satisfying conclusion to the meal.
Infotainment
On our overnight flight with WestJet, we were pleasantly surprised by the impressive selection of in-flight entertainment options available. Despite our goal of getting a good night’s sleep, we found ourselves drawn to the diverse array of movies, TV shows, and music offered through their infotainment system. Whether it was catching up on the latest blockbusters or relaxing to some soothing tunes, WestJet ensured that our journey was as enjoyable and entertaining as possible. The entertainment options change regularly so you can find current offerings by clicking here.
Calgary to Paris
The next flight, from Calgary to Paris, was by far the best flight. As soon as we boarded and found our seats, we were handed a glass of champagne. The lay flat seats are very spacious and came with a Matt & Nat amenity kit which was filled with compression socks, eye mask, face wipe, lotion, and lip balm. There is a lot of storage around the seat, and the blanket and pillow provided were warm and comfortable. Our 3 year old daughter fell asleep in her seat pretty much as soon as we boarded. The service and attention to details from the flight attendants was great.
In Flight Food Service
Dinner
The food service came out in a timely fashion, and the menu was superb. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli served with sauteed spinach and a parmesan marinara sauce. It also came with an asian slaw salad, dinner roll, and a chocolate feuilletine cake. The ravioli emerged as a shining star among the culinary offerings on the flight. Each ravioli encased a luscious filling bursting with the sweet, earthy flavor of roasted squash. Complemented by the tangy notes of the parmesan marinara sauce, every bite offered a perfect blend of savory and sweet. The sautéed spinach provided a vibrant burst of color and freshness, perfectly balancing the richness of the dish. This vegetarian option showcased the chef’s skillful execution and creativity, proving that inflight dining can be both sophisticated and satisfying.
My husband got the herb-panko-crusted salmon with roasted potatoes, broccoli, squash, and tomato sauce with capers and olives. The crispy exterior of the salmon, encrusted with a fragrant herb and panko crust, gave way to tender, flaky flesh beneath. Paired with a vibrant tomato sauce infused with capers and olives, each bite provided a burst of Mediterranean-inspired goodness. The dish showcased a perfect balance of indulgence and wholesomeness. This seafood option exemplified WestJet’s commitment to offering high-quality inflight dining experiences, elevating the journey to a culinary adventure.
Shortly after I put my chair in the lay flat position and tried to get some much needed rest!
Breakfast
Since it was a long flight, we were also served breakfast. Great breakfast menu with options for everyone. I ordered the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on an English muffin and a breakfast bowl which was a small bowl filled with grapes, a chunk of Brie cheese, cherry tomatoes, half of a boiled egg, and an apricot. The classic breakfast sandwich proved to be a comforting and satisfying option. Nestled between a toasted English muffin, the crispy bacon, fluffy scrambled eggs, and melted cheese melded together in a harmonious union of flavors and textures. Simple yet satisfying, this breakfast option was a crowd-pleaser for travelers of all ages.
Having the lay flat seats was so amazing. It’s hard to fly without those seats now! The staff was great and the seat was very comfortable. I would highly recommend business class for any long distance flights!
Kid Friendliness/Customer Service:
WestJet had pretty good customer service. The people on the phone were very helpful and patient with us, and everyone we met during the check in process was great. The flight attendants were good, not the friendliest (especially on our first flight), but they weren’t rude. Just kind of nice. They do offer a kids menu but you will need to order in advance.
