All About Pilsen Christmas Market

The Pilsen Christmas Market started in 2004, and while it is still a fairly new market, it is a very popular place, and feels a lot older than it is. The market showcases craftsmanship and traditions that are almost forgotten. You can watch artists at work and are able to purchase unique and one of a kind souvenirs and gifts. Make sure you ring the wooden bell! Tradition states if you ring the bell, it will make your holiday wish come true.

Must-Try Eats at Pilsen Christmas Market

We discovered a lot of new food here. Strong aromas, steaming stalls, and plenty of drinks. Here were some of the more popular items, and a few of our favorites

  • Langos: a fried flatbread topped with garlic, ketchup, and cheese. It was good – warm and flavorful, and super garlicky.
  • Chudi Rytiri: a sweet dough or pancake on the outside and a little sweet and slightly sour custard- like sour cream or yogurt was used for the filling on the inside.
  • Horke Bombardino: Eggnog with brandy, but it tasted nothing like the eggnog we’re used to in the US! They use Advocaat which is more eggy and custard-like.
  • Purkmister Brewery: If beer is your thing, head 15 minutes away to this brewery, where you can try the Christmas beers and homemade camel eggnog!

What to See at Pilsen Christmas Market

There are more than 100 stalls here and all with wares different to the ones we’ve been seeing in Germany. You can watch a large loom in action, or the blacksmith which are both fascinating to see. The nativity scene was the star of the show. It was big and well laid out.

There is a beautiful carousel in the middle of the market, and a stage in front of the church where live music takes place. Having St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral as a backdrop makes for a really beautiful backdrop.

Where to Park for Pilsen Christmas Market

We found street parking about a 2 minute walk away by the Mlýnská strouha. There was a pay station located at the end of the street, and luckily there was a lady walking by who informed us about it!

There are plenty of parking garages in the area, and something known as P&R Car Parks which is a parking lot partnered with public transportation. A ticket to the lot gives you access to travel anywhere in Pilsen including transfers and a return trip.

Is Pilsen Christmas Market Worth Visiting?

If you are in the area, then yes, you should definitely visit! The food was new, interesting, and delicious. The town was great and the people were friendly. I don’t think I would go too far out of my way to come back, but if I happened to be an hour or so away, then yes I would visit here again!
