Overview:
If you ever visit Chania, Crete, you will quickly realize there are a lot of restaurants. We had been trying to figure out where to eat there for a while and finally asked our AirBnB host for a recommendation. He told us Woodstock was one of the best. It’s located right along the beach, so while walking there we passed restaurant after restaurant that was jam packed. Once we arrived at Woodstock we noticed there were maybe 2 tables. That didn’t look promising. But we decided to go for it anyway. And I’m so glad we did. We sat outside, right along the water. The menu is large, and they also serve some brunch options all day.
I started with a glass of Ouzo, which was a clear liquid half full in a glass, and they gave me a bucket of ice. This was my first time trying it, so they told me I needed to add some ice, and when I did it became a milky color! It was delicious, and feeling like you’ve done a science experiment with your drink was pretty cool.
The Food
The food though! We ordered the baked feta (I’ve eaten a lot of feta while in Crete, but this was my first time trying it baked), a Cretan Salad, and the red velvet pancakes (it was my Dad’s birthday back in the US, so we decided to get this to celebrate him…I swear that’s the only reason.) The baked feta was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever had. It was so creamy and delicious, and the veggies cooked with it gave the cheese this beautiful roasted flavor. The Cretan salad was large, crisp, and filled with fresh veggies. The mizithra cheese on top was so creamy and delicious. The red velvet pancakes were the highlight of the meal. They’re so beautiful! They were big and fluffy and so rich. The entire table can share. We were so pleasantly surprised with this restaurant! We will definitely come back next time we’re in the area!
Customer Service/Kid Friendliness:
The service was great. The guys were quick and friendly. They did not offer a kids menu, but there is so much available on the menu that one is not really needed.
Accessibility:
Easy to get to from downtown Chania. Right along the water. It was also near a busier street which had street parking available.
