Gruezi from Geneva, Switzerland!

We arrived in Geneva, Switzerland early this morning via a 30 minute taxi ride from Annemasse, France. Of course we had our humongous backpacks with us, so we did a little research and found cheap lockers at the train station. Only 10 euros for the day! We lightened our load and off we went. Walking out of the train station and directly in front of us was Lake Geneva and the Jet D’eau in all its glory.

Walking along the Square des Alpes in Geneva, Switzerland soaking in the views of the lake and the surrounding mountains, we stopped and stared in awe at the Brunswick Monument. A beautiful piece of architecture.

While walking around, I noticed small but beautiful little water fountains scattered around the park and lake. I thought it was a nice touch hearing the water. So calming. I figured they were bird baths or just around for looks. Come to find out, it is free drinking water! I saw a biker stop and fill up a few water bottles. Whaaat?! I consider myself somewhat of a water aficionado and am always trying new brands of water or water filters. My water needs to taste crisp, clean, and amazing. I assumed this water would be like old, musty drinking fountain water you would find in middle school, but boy was I wrong! This water, this FREE water, was honestly the best water I have ever had. It was cold, and crisp, and my mouth immediately felt hydrated! (I am sure that’s a weird thing to hear. But if you know..you know.)

Cottage cafe in Geneva, Switzerland
Breakfast by the Lake

Cute cafe overlooking the Jet D’eau

Now who would have guessed that soaking up beautiful views and drinking so much water would make me so famished?! So off we went on the search for food. We didn’t have to search far. In the middle of the square was a cute little cafe. The Cottage Cafe to be exact. Plenty of outdoor seating with a perfect view of the lake. It was here that I had another one of my top 3 meals in the world. Homemade spelt bread toast with rhubarb vanilla jam. It only took one bite to bring me to tears. I think it took me about an hour to eat that one piece of toast. I wanted it to last forever. And Seth may or may not be missing a few fingers.

We lazily strolled around the town after our meal of a lifetime. At this point we only had a few hours here before needing to be back at the train station. The air here is amazing. It’s clean and crisp (just like their water!), and there’s a hint of chocolate. It could be because every other store happened to be a chocolate shop. The streets and parks are clean and full of flowers. The scenery is just breathtaking.

Geneva, Switzerland Train Station

I need to talk about the train ride outta here. First of all, the train station is so nice. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, the place was clean, and there were a lot of food choices. The train itself was clean and updated. We had done a lot of research for this train ride, and were very excited to be going through the Alps. We took the TER 96562. This was my favorite train for the views! Lush green mountains, tiny picturesque towns, huge castles built into the sides of the hills. The train went through a few tunnels, so our ears popped more times than I can count. I could live on this train. Just go back and forth staring out the window, sipping some wine. Ahhh. This is the good life.

Come with us to London! But watch out for the bugs…
