Salut from Annemasse, France!Annemasse, France

So this was an unexpected stop. We had originally booked an AirBnb in Geneva, Switzerland, but as we were preparing to leave the night before, we received a message from the host saying he would be there upon our arrival since he will be staying in the home with us. This was something I was not comfortable with. It was stated on his listing that we would have the entire apartment to ourselves. After some back and forth, we made the decision to find another accommodation.  We couldn’t find anything in Geneva on such short notice, so we started looking along the border, and came across a super cute hotel in Annemasse, France. It was really the only thing we could find. In between naps and snacking, I read up on the town on our 4 hour train ride (aka I looked for food).

First Impressions

It is located in France, but is part of the Geneva metropolitan area. Most people who work in Geneva, live here!

When we got off the train, we made our way, on foot, to our hotel. The town was super quiet, as in there was no one out. No one. And I think maybe 2-3 other people got off with us. Uhhh..what is going on?! Our hotel was just a few minutes walk from the train station. The lady working there was so helpful and welcoming. I asked her what was going on. I was starting to get a little creeped out. Come to find out, during the afternoon, most people take naps or relax inside, especially on hot days. She also informed us that most travel to work, so we wouldn’t see the crowds until later in the evening. And boy was she right. After we unpacked and rested for a while, we found a restaurant close by. It had indoor/outdoor seating, and was packed with people! This isn’t some the Hills Have Eyes ghost town. Thank god.

Stay For The Food

We ordered a few glasses of wine and a burger at Les Sales Gosses! This was the first burger we had since leaving the US. It was perfect. We are slowly starting to dine more as the Europeans do. Slow and steady. We sat there and enjoyed our food and ambience for a few hours. It was so relaxing, and much needed after the non stop running around that has been this trip.

I would have loved to stay here and explore a few more days. Our short stay was definitely a memorable one, and I cannot wait to come back. We called a cab in the morning as we ventured into Switzerland.
