All About Regensburg Christmas Market

The Regensburger Christkindlmarkt dates back to the 17th century and is located in the historic city center, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The market offers a variety of traditional and regional products, such as gingerbread, mulled wine, and handcrafted souvenirs. The town is beautifully decorated for the Advent season, easy to get to, and easy to walk around.

Must-Try Eats at Regensburg Christmas Market

There was a solid amount of food options here, along with some new options we hadn’t seen yet. Plan on coming hungry! Here are the top foods at Regensburg Christmas Market:

  • Regensburger Wurst: Try the local sausage! The flavor is unique to the area and the smell completely permeates the air.
  • Gluhwein: With over 40 varieties, you have to try at least one! The apple or blueberry are made locally and the perfect addition to mulled wine. Don’t forget you pay a deposit with the option to keep the cup as a souvenir!
  • Baumstriezel: Aka the chimney cake. It’s warm and delicious, and the perfect sweet treat to munch on while exploring. Vegan options are available.
  • Bavarian Pretzels: There was a stall selling a variety of delicious looking pretzels! Some were topped with melted cheese and various toppings, and some were made into sandwiches. I will return strictly to try these!
  • Roasted Nuts: You will find these at most Christmas markets, but Regensburg had a great selection and an even better aroma. Sweet, savory, and everything in between.

What to See

There were some rides here, but mostly for small children. There was a carousel that our 4 year old was almost too big for! The main attraction at Regensburg Christmas Market is the stalls. They were all unique and you could watch the craftsmen at work! We saw a glass blower in action and a few people carving ornaments out of wood. It’s really special seeing the item you’re about to purchase being made right before your eyes.

Where to Park for Regensburg Christmas Market

We ended up finding street parking, most likely due to us being there fairly early! There are a few parking garages within walking distance to the market, such as Arkaden or the Petersweg car park.

Is Regensburg Christmas Market Worth Visiting?

Yes it is! While the Regensburg Christmas Market is unique and festive, what makes this market special is the town. The beautifully colored buildings, the Stone Bridge (One of the oldest bridges in Germany!), and the historic Sausage Kitchen, which is one of the world’s oldest restaurants!

If you’re planning on visiting, make sure you give yourself some extra time to go explore.
